Auric: Interface
Auric: Interface is an immersive light sculpture using a Kinect v2 sensor to track the human body and translate movement into sound-reactive glow and subtle motion distortions. The installation explores self-doubt and personal growth, turning the body into both canvas and catalyst for reflection.
Concept
The idea stemmed from a fascination with new media and the contrast between enlightenment and self-doubt. During a period of personal reflection, I wanted to create something that serves as a reminder of self-worth. A reminder that I’m gold. The term “auric” embodies this idea of inner luminosity.
The project also sits at the intersection of man and machine, drawing inspiration from A Clockwork Orange, which shaped the idea of the Auric: Interface.
Brief
Created as part of my Light Sculptures elective, Auric: Interface explores the relationship between light, body, and emotion. The goal was to build an immersive experience using unconventional materials; where light interacts directly with the human form to evoke introspection rather than spectacle.
Outcome
After nearly twenty iterations, the final installation achieved a balanced synthesis of sound, movement, and light. The glowing interface responded to sonic input and human proximity, translating emotional tension into rhythm and radiance. Auric: Interface became both a visual and emotional reflection
